In this morning, you will first pay a visit to Shaanxi History Museum and the Ancient City Wall. Afterwards, proceed to Xi'an Local Free Market, here you can experience the typical daily life of the local people. And then move on to the Grand Mosque in the old city. Bell Tower, the landmark of Xi`an, stands in the city`s centre, just a stone`s throw from the mosque. So you may make a stroll in the square of the Bell Tower. Xi'an was the starting point of the Silk Road, taking a photo of the Relievos of Silkroad-Starting-Point, you will complete today's program.

Shaanxi History Museum recreates Tang-dynasty architecture and successfully symbolizes the great extent of Shaanxi history and its remarkable culture. Its permanent exhibition primarily displays Shaanxi's ancient history. Representative pieces from all periods have been selected to show the development of civilization in this region. The Shaanxi History Museum contains 115,000 objects in its collections. The more representative of these include bronzes, Tang-dynasty tomb wall paintings, terracotta statuary, ceramics (pottery and porcelain), construction materials through the dynasties, Han and Tang bronze mirrors, and coins and currency, calligraphy, rubbings, scrolls, woven articles, bone articles, wooden and lacquer and iron and stone objects, seals, as well as some contemporary cultural relics and ethnic objects. |

Xi`an Ancient City Wall (Details/Hidden)

Xi`an Ancient City Wall including its four gates was firstly built in the Tang Dynasty(618-907) and enlarged in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It's the most complete city wall that has survived in China and one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world. It is 12 meters high, 12-14 meters wide at the top and 15-18 meters thick at the bottom and it covers about14 kilometers in length with a deep moat surrounding it. There are 98 ramparts on the wall, which were built to defend against the enemy climbing up the wall. Each rampart has a sentry building, in which the soldiers could protect the entire wall without exposing themselves to the enemy. A nice suggestion for tourists: Try biking on the City Wall, you will have an enjoyable and interesting experience. |

Grand Mosque, located near the Drum Tower in Xi`an, is one of the oldest and most renowned mosques in the country. It`s a major spot for religious activities of over 60,000 Moslems living in Xi'an. Built in Tang Dynasty, and renovated in later periods, the Grand Mosque possesses much Chinese traditional touch in both its design and artistic outlook: besides the style peculiar to Islamic mosques, it also holds characteristics of Chinese pavilions with painted beams and engraved ridgepoles. |

Xi`an Bell Tower, a spectacular traditional building, was built in 1384 of Ming Times. It is the largest and best-preserved of its kind in China. Standing at the geographical center of the ancient capital, this 36- meter(118 feet) high wooden tower is also one of the landmarks of Xi`an nowadays. Only a stone`s throw from the tower is the brightly decorated Bell Tower Central Square, surrounded by modern shopping malls, famed hotels and restaurants. When night falls, lanterns hung from the eaves illuminate the tower, making it even more enchanting. A stroll on the Bell Tower Central Square by night is a must-do for travelers from any county. |
